Social Value
27 January 2025
At Devcon, we see our projects as more than just construction work —
they’re an opportunity to make a real difference in our communities.
Whether hiring local talent, supporting young people starting their
careers, or doing our bit for the environment, we always look for ways
to add value beyond the build.
Hiring Local
When we need labour for our sites, our first instinct is to look
locally. It’s better for the community, more efficient for us, and
helps build stronger connections between our teams and the areas where
we work.
We advertise jobs locally, post roles on Indeed, and work with our
trusted recruitment partner, which has several offices across London.
They help us find people who live near our sites, which means less
travel time, better flexibility, and more opportunity for local
residents.
We usually look for general labourers at different stages of the
build, not necessarily every day, but regularly throughout the
project's lifetime program.
We also encourage our subcontractors to take on apprentices. We
strongly believe in this and are proud to support it. We’ve also
offered short-term placements, usually one or two weeks, for students
and young people who want to get a feel for working on a construction
site. It’s a great way to spark interest in the industry and help
people gain hands-on experience early on.

Helping Communities Grow Stronger
We know that the success of our projects depends on the well-being of
the communities around them. That’s why we’re committed to doing what
we can to support resilient, thriving neighbourhoods.
This might mean working with local councils or community groups to
support events, offer career advice, or run training sessions. One
recent example we’re particularly proud of was a careers talk for
students in Guildford, where we introduced young people to the wide
range of roles available in construction. We also sponsored football
kits for a local under-15s team, because supporting grassroots sport
is also part of helping the next generation.
We'd love to hear from you if you’re part of a local group, school, or
initiative and think we could help. We’re always open to new ideas and
partnerships.
